Sexual Communication

A colleague of at the Center for Sexual Health Promotion and I recently completed a manuscript looking at the impact that sexual and nonsexual communication have on relationship and sexual satisfaction. I recently presented this research at the Canadian Sex Research Forum.

I was on Passion with Dr. Laurie on CJAD the other night to discuss this study and the ways in which we need to improve our conceptualization of sexual communication.

Although my research (and previous research) supports that communication is important to satisfaction, I think about this in terms of my own relationships and relationships of those around me.

One of the biggest things that is still a mystery to me is that it seems so intuitive that communication leads to satisfaction – yet, so many people are left unsatisfied. Are people not communicating? Or do they just not have the proper tools to communicate?
