My research has always had clear clinical implications for sex and relationships, so clinical work was a natural interest of mine. Mid-career, I took a sabbatical from my faculty position to complete a clinical fellowship in marriage and family therapy — and it’s been a great complement to my research, letting me see the science play out in real time while also revealing where the research still falls short.
My approach is collaborative, systems-based, and tailored to you, drawing on emotionally focused therapy (EFT), the Gottman Method, narrative therapy, social script theory, and solution-focused strategies when appropriate. I work from a social justice and intersectional feminist lens. I completed the Intensive Sex Therapy training program at the University of Guelph, am AASECT-certified as a sexuality educator and supervisor, and bring an extensive background in LGBTQIA+ health as a sex-positive, LGBTQIA+ inclusive clinician.
I am a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT) with a small, specialized private practice in Minneapolis focused on sex and relationship therapy. I offer individual therapy, relationship therapy, and sex and relationship intensives virtually or in person at my south Minneapolis therapy space.
Clients come to me for support with concerns such as:
I have extensive clinical and research experience in all of these areas. If you’re curious about my research studies and publications in these areas, check out the Research tab.
Individual therapy is a good fit if you’re navigating sexual function concerns, working through sexual shame, healing from sexual trauma, or exploring sexual identity-related concerns. Because my practice is highly specialized with limited slots available, I may refer you to another provider if your needs fall outside this focus. Individual therapy sessions are 55-minutes in length and offered virtually or in person.
Relationship therapy helps couples move from a “you vs. me” dynamic to a “we” dynamic. I make sure every partner feels heard and seen, while gently challenging the patterns and narratives that have become routine in your relationship. My style is direct — I’m comfortable with silence and with speaking up when it’s needed — which tends to create real movement in session rather than just talking around the issue. Relationship therapy sessions are 55-minutes in length and offered virtually or in person.
Intensives are designed for couples who want to make meaningful progress without waiting through months of weekly or biweekly sessions. These focused, evidence-informed experiences are available in 3-hour or 6-hour formats and are available virtually or in person.
Is an intensive right for you? Intensives tend to work well if you’re short on time for a weekly commitment, want to make focused progress after a specific event or turning point, or simply prefer a concentrated experience over an extended series of appointments. Many clients also use an intensive as a jumpstart, followed by occasional sessions to maintain progress.
Each intensive includes:
